895 drug pushers killed in 2 months, says PNP

A TOTAL of 895 drug pushers were killed while more than 500,000 drug pushers and addicts surrendered in the first two months of the nationwide campaign against illegal drugs by the Duterte administration.

The Philippine National Police on Tuesday released a tally of casualties in the antidrug campaign from July 1 to Aug. 30 and stressed that those killed either grabbed the guns of raiding policemen or engaged the officers in a firefight in legitimate police operations.

Of the 626,368 who surrendered, 41,064 were drug pushers while 585,305 were users.

Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, PNP spokesperson, said 12,920 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses while 555 others were notified though “Oplan Tokhang,” which involved the police knocking at the homes of suspected drug personalities and asking them to stop all their drug-related activities.

A total of 812 search warrants were also served on suspected drug personalities. Cynthia D. Balana
