Cavite village chief, companion killed in barangay hall shootout
SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines—A village chief suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade and his companion were killed in a shootout with policemen inside a barangay (village) hall in Naic town in Cavite province on Thursday, police said.
Supt. Gil Torralba, chief of the intelligence unit of the Cavite police, said policemen went to the Sabang barangay hall at 8:30 a.m. to serve village chief Erickson Sisracon with a search warrant.
Sisracon was described by the police as a “high value” illegal drug suspect.
In a telephone interview, Torralba said policemen were met with gunfire when they went to village official’s office.
He said policemen returned fire, causing Sisracon’s death. His companion, whom the police have yet to identify, also died in the shootout.
Police recovered weapons and a still undetermined amount of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in the barangay hall, Torralba said. RAM/rga
