BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—The body of a man believed to have been a victim of summary execution was found in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Jeffrey Buencuchillo, 33, suffered multiple gunshot wounds while his hands were cut off.
He was also hogtied when found at Purok (sub-village) Tumpok, Barangay (village) Zone 15, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Also found in the crime scene was a cardboard with a message that read: “ Ako usa ka akyat bahay, kawatan, adik. Ayaw ko ninyo sunda kay kamu na pod ang sunod patyon (I am a member of Akyat Bahay, a thief, an addict. Don’t follow me [and] my example because you will be killed next).”
Senior Supt. William Señoron, police director of Negros Occidental, said Buencuchillo from Victorias City, was identified by his sister.
A female witness told the police that the victim was in the company of three other men last Wednesday night at the Shopping Center in Bacolod City.
Señoron initially dismissed speculations about the existence of a “vigilante group” that may be behind the killing.
Should there be one, Señoron said that he would not tolerate it.
“We are a government of laws, and not of men,” he said.
The killing took place just as incoming President Rodrigo Duterte had promised swift action against those engaged in illegal drug trade and heinous crimes. RAM
