Zambo man nabbed for allegedly killing, beheading father

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 40-year-old man, who was previously jailed for attempting to burn his son to death, was arrested anew in Barangay Capisan here–this time, in connection with Thursday’s killing and beheading of his 70-year-old father.

Superintendent Haywien Salvado, the commander of the Santa Maria police station, said Roderico Bernardo was taken into custody on suspicion he killed his father, Ceasar.

The old man’s body and his severed head were found only a few meters apart near his son’s house in Sitio Migasa.

Salvado said Roderico was immediately arrested when investigators found several pieces of evidence in his custody, including the scabbard he might have used in killing and decapitating his father.

In addition, Salvado said that blood was also over Roderico’s dirty kitchen, which suggested that the old man was killed there.

“(The) motive (being eyed) is robbery,” Salvado said.

“He had cash amounting to P300,000 with him, money he saved from his farm produce and he was about to buy a truck,” Salvado said, citing accounts from the other Bernardo siblings.

Roderico denied he was behind his father’s death and decapitation.

The suspect was being detained at the Santa Maria police as appropriate charges were being readied against him. CDG
