LUMBAN, Laguna—It must have been the yellow top or the name of former Laguna Representative Edgar “Egay” San Luis that presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe on Friday had almost mistaken him for an incumbent congressman, who happens to be a member of the Liberal Party (LP).

Clad in yellow shirt, San Luis stood beside Poe on stage during a mini-rally here when the latter almost addressed him as Caloocan Rep. Edgar “Egay” Erice, one of her staunchest critics in Congress.

San Luis was also an LP member but he is now an independent seeking to return as a member of Congress.

“Nais kong pasalamatan din si Congressman Egay Eri…Egay San Luis at ang kanyang anak” Poe said as she recognized the local officials present in the rally.

(I would also like to thank Congressman Egay Eri… Egay San Luis and his child.)

She had to take a pause before and briefly laugh at her mistake before proceeding with her speech.

Asked about it later in an interview with reporters if she got confused because San Luis was wearing yellow, the signature color of LP, Poe just smiled and clarified that she did not mention another name.

“Wala akong binibigkas ha, umpisa pa lang ng pangalan…” she said.

(I did not mention another name, I was just about to say the name.)

Asked again if it was because San Luis was wearing yellow, Poe gave in and said in jest: “Maaari, maari (Perhaps).” RAM
