Rescue operations ongoing for 3 missing miners in Compostela Valley

TAGUM CITY—Rescue operations continue for the three miners who are still missing following a flood inside a tunnel in Mt. Diwalwal, Monkayo, Compostela Valley on Sunday, police said Monday.

Three bodies have also been recovered and six rescued following the incident at the Australia tunnel in Purok 3, said Supt. Jay Dema-ala, Monkayo police chief.

Dema-ala said 12 miners were working under the 650-foot-deep shaft when floodwaters from days of continuous rain rushed in around 10:30 a.m., sweeping away the miners, Dema-ala said. RAM
