Liberal Party not behind disqualification case vs Poe–spokesperson

There is no truth to the rumors that Liberal Party is behind the disqualification case against presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe, according to the party’s spokesperson.

In the first place, Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Gutierrez said it was not the camp of LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas that raised the allegedly questionable citizenship and residency of Poe.

“Absolutely, walang katotohanan na meron kaming kinalaman sa mga disqualification cases. Kung babalikan natin, halimbawa sa issue ni Senator Poe, sino ba ang unang kampo na nag-raise ng issue ng kanyang disqualification on the basis of citizenship? Sa aking pagkaalala hindi naman kami,” Gutierrez told reporters at the LP headquarters on Wednesday.

Gutierrez pointed to a spokesperson of another presidential candidate who first spoke about the possible disqualification of Poe from the presidential race.

“Malinaw hindi kami ’yan. Wala kaming kinalaman sa ganyang mga usapin at klaro din kung sino ang nagtulak ng ganyang mga isyu nung simula,” the LP spokesperson said.

From the start, Gutierrez said the LP, living by its “daang matuwid” principle, respected the law, the Constitution and processes imposed by institutions.

The ruling party, which considered Poe its vice presidential bet for some time, also welcomed the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) second division disqualifying Poe over her false representations about her citizenship and period of residency in the country.

Gutierrez said the LP expected that all parties involved would respect the Comelec decision the way they accepted the Senate Electorate Tribunal’s decision in favor of Poe. RC
