Senatorial bet Lorna Kapunan says she is PH’s ‘ticket of hope’

High-profile lawyer Lorna Kapunan on Thursday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Commission on Elections headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.

Admitting that many people have asked her why she would run for senator despite the presence of more popular aspirants, Kapunan said her senatorial bid was like the game of lottery.

“Ang sagot ko diyan parang bumibili ka ng sweepstakes ticket. You will never win (the) lottery kapag hindi kayo bumili ng ticket,” Kapunan told the media after filing her COC.

(I say that is like buying a sweepstakes ticket. You will never win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.)

“I am that ticket of hope, and if you don’t buy that ticket of hope, ‘wag po tayong magalit (don’t get upset),”

Kapunan said she will run on an agenda of “HOPE,” an acronym she coined for her platform—honest government, opportunity for all, peace and prosperity, and education and environment.

Kapunan said she will run under the Aksyon party of the late former senator Raul Roco, which will support the tandem of Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero.

Kapunan was the former legal counsel of Janet Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the pork barrel scam. Some of her former celebrity clients include basketball star James Yap, controversial doctor Hayden Kho and actress Rhian Ramos. IDL
