MANILA, Philippines–A gay man in Marikina City who came home from a wake was stabbed dead by his partner on Tuesday night after he allegedly refused to give in to the latter’s financial demands.

Ronaldo Arceo, a 52-year-old caterer, died from a lone stab wound in his chest after he reportedly turned down his unemployed partner’s financial demands.

Police said Arceo had just arrived home from a wake of a friend when the suspect, known only as Jay-R, attacked him with a bread knife inside his house at Barangay J. Dela Peña in Marikina City.

Authorities said Arceo’s younger brother, Ruben, heard the victim scream for help around 10:50 p.m. Ruben, who was living beside his brother’s house, then looked out his door and saw the 25-year-old suspect hurriedly leaving, wearing nothing but his shorts, police said.

SPO1 Aladin Alingas said the wounded Arceo was able to come out of the house he was sharing with the suspect for over a year to seek his brother’s help. Ruben brought his brother to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center but Arceo was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Alingas said that Ruben would usually hear the two fight over money matters. And that on Tuesday night, the suspect could’ve gotten fed up with the victim’s refusal to give in to his demands. Ruben, however, told authorities that he didn’t hear the two quarrel on the night of the killing.

The police official surmised that the Zamboanga-born suspect might have waited for Arceo to rest in their room before attacking him. He added that nothing was reported missing in Arceo’s house and that the victim’s wallet full of cash was still inside his house.
