BEIJING, China—The search for a new chief of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is on.
President Benigno Aquino III said Tuesday he wanted to appoint his ally, former Cavite Gov. Ayong Maliksi, to the job but the latter has a case that has been pending in the Office of the Ombudsman for the past 10 years.
Aquino said the PCSO, whose general manager now serves also as its acting chief, “has to have that full body.”
As for Maliksi, he said: “It might be easier to use his talents if we put him in another assignment.”
Aquino said he recently spoke with Maliksi, who told him he was still willing to help in any way he could but only if he would not be a burden to the President.
He said he considered this proof that Maliksi was an “honorable person who was not desperate to have a position.”
