Another suspect in Pangasinan town mayor shooting falls

MANILA, Philippines—Another ‎suspected gunman in the 2007 shooting in Pangasinan province of San Carlos town Mayor Julian Resuello has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Jala-jala, Rizal province, police said.

Salvador Boquiren, 52, was caught late Tuesday by CIDG personnel in his home in Barangay (village) Lubo, Superintendent Danilo Macerin of the CIDG National Capital Region office said Wednesday.

Boquiren is wanted for his alleged involvement in the April 2007 shootout during a town fiesta in San Carlos that killed Mayor Julian Resuello and one of his security aides.

Macerin said Boquiren, who worked as a school bus driver while he was in hiding, was also accused of raping a then 18-year-old maid in 2001.

“We do believe that this is about politics,” incumbent San Carlos town mayor Julier Resuello, son of the slain mayor, told reporters at the Camp Crame national police headquarters.

Resuello added that one of the witnesses‎ positively identified Boquiren as one of the gunmen.

“When he saw the picture of Boquiren, he said he would never forget his face,” he said.

Two .38 caliber revolvers and 18 live ammunitions were found in the suspect’s possession.

In April 2007, Angelito Soriano, one of the suspected gunmen, was arrested by the police. Soriano denied his involvement in the shooting.

Macerin said a manhunt operation for the remaining gunmen was ongoing.
