LUCENA CITY — Seven crew members of a motorized boat were rescued from their vessel that capsized on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the seas off Patnanungan island town in Quezon province.
The Quezon police said in a report Wednesday, Jan. 8, that the ill-fated cargo boat MB Krystal Faith sank in the municipal water near Barangay Poblacion around 10:15 a.m.
The local police and personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard station on the island rushed to the site and successfully saved the crew who were all found in safe condition.
The report said the boat, loaded with sacks of copra, was battered by strong currents and huge waves that capsized it.
Authorities also retrieved the capsized boat. The boat owner is offering a cash reward for every sack of copra that will be recovered.
Patnanungan in northern Quezon is located east of Polillo Island facing the Pacific Ocean.
The sea vessel was sailing toward Atimonan town in the mainland when the incident happened.
