PNP defends hiring of Right Eight Security Agency

MANILA, Philippines – If anyone would like to find out why only one security agency vied for the P21-million contract of the Philippine National Police for security guards, the person can examine the PNP bidding process as it is open to public scrutiny.

The 73 security guards detailed at the gates and offices of Camp Crame, PNP’s national headquarters, on Saturday belong to Right Eight Security Agency Inc.

Right Eight is the sole security firm that participated in the auction for a one-year contract with the PNP, said spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor.

Incidentally, some guards from Right Eight  clashed in November last year with Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. after they refused to allow Binay’s four-car convoy to pass through a restricted gate of Dasmariñas Village in Makati City.

Mayor said the agency is a member of the security group Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators, Inc. (PADPAO).‎

The PNP’s hiring of security guards to protect Camp Crame drew flak‎ from the public. But the embattled PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima had said that the move was to allow the deployment of more policemen on the streets.

Based on records, Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino, PNP Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) head, said in a text message to INQUIRER.net that Right Eight is an agency established in 1996 with 148 clients to date.

Its main office is located on Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati City. ‎The agency’s licensee is Ma. Roxanne Singson.

Right Eight’s License to Operate as a private security agency is effective until March 31, 2015.

Constantino added that based on the agency’s latest Monthly Disposition Report, it has 995 security guards and 490 firearms.

“We’ve been transparent with this move. We’ve been announcing the plans and programs of the PNP that we want to post guards and inviting all interest security agencies,” mayor said.
