MANILA, Philippines – Saying it will set a bad precedent, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday decided not to attend the Senate blue ribbon committee.
“This will set a bad precedent, where the Vice President, the second highest official of the land, can be summoned to a hearing by some senators,” Binay said in his letter addressed to committee chair Senator Teofisto Guingona III.
Binay, who is in Cebu, accused the senators of being a party to “a syndicate of lies.”
Guingona and the other senators were expecting the Vice President to appear before the Senate and answer allegations of corruption. However, media reported that Binay had arrived in Cebu on Thursday morning to meet with business and government officials.
