SILANG, Cavite—President Benigno Aquino III slammed critics Monday who dispute the supposed achievements of his administration, branding them as “contrarians”.

In a speech during his visit at the Sisters of Mary Girlstown Complex here, Aquino described contrarians as people who are not satisfied with the performance of his governance.

“There are “contrarians” in any society. What is a contrarian? They are those who oppose everything, no matter how excellent you are in your job. That is what he does because he finds joy in it—he needs to oppose,” Aquino said in Filipino in his speech.

The statement was made after Aquino challenged Vice President Jejomar Binay to leave the Cabinet if Binay thinks the administration is straying from the “tuwid na daan(straight path) mode of governance.

Aquino also slammed critics who are finding faults in his administration ahead of the 2016 presidential elections, stating that they impede the reforms he intend to implement during the last months of his presidency.

“If you do not want to join us, you will be left alone. You have the freedom to choose not to join us. We all want to prosper, please do not block us,” Aquino warned.

Meanwhile, Binay responded to the Aquino’s challenge by stating that he will continue to be a “team player” in the Aquino Cabinet.
