MANILA, Philippines – Nine towns in Albay province may be affected by the ashfall that could come from Mayon Volcano, the state weather bureau said Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said these areas were:
Camalig
Guinobatan
Pio Duran
Daraga
Jovellar
Ligao
Oas
Polangui
Libon
But Pagasa said the possibility of ashfall would depend on the speed and direction of the wind.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible afternoon rainshowers and thunderstorms are also expected over these areas.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in a bulletin that Mayon Volcano’s alert status remained at Alert Level 3, and that a rockfall event was recorded during the 24-hour observation period.
