MANILA, Philippines — Militant groups at Welcome Rotonda called for a P125-wage hike on Thursday, Labor Day.
“Now more than ever, workers need a P125 across-the-board wage hike nationwide because the minimum wage has been lagging behind price hikes for the past years,” siad Elmer Labog, chairperson of Kilusang Mayo Uno.
The protesters, who endured sweltering heat at Welcome Rotonda before noon, also called for an end to contractualization, “which has been one of the most widespread means by which wages have been pressed down.”
Protesters also condemned the signing of Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement between the Philippines and the United States.
