MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan on Thursday said the petition of President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for a birthday furlough has been submitted for resolution.
After the hearing of the Sandiganbayan’s first division early Thursday, Arroyo’s lawyer Modesto Tucman Jr. told reporters that a decision on Arroyo’s plea for a three-day birthday furlough would come out within five days.
Arroyo’s physician Martha Nucum who testified before the court on the former president’s condition said she was fit to travel granted that she be given close medical monitoring within the travel period.
Nucum added that allowing Arroyo to spend her birthday with her family and friends would contribute to her overall wellness.
Arroyo’s camp asked the court to allow her to celebrate her 67th birthday on April 5, in Lubao, Pampanga.
