Fire hits condo building in Manila

Traffic buildup cleared

MANILA, Philippines–Traffic buildup along España boulevard caused by a residential tower that caught fire Friday morning has been cleared, the Metro Manila Development Authority said.

‎An MMDA officer told INQUIRER.net over the phone that there was no more traffic congestion on the roads along España Grand Residences, particularly the Espana boulevard lane going to Quiapo Church.

Fire broke out in a portion of the residential tower around 9:30 a.m. on the corner of G.M. Tolentino and Eloisa streets in Sampaloc near the University of Santo Tomas.

Radio reports said the blaze was placed under second alarm, prompting fire officials to deploy up to four firetrucks to the ar‎ea.

It was put out around 10 a.m. with no casualties reported.

According to reports, the affected portion was a restaurant inside España Grand Residences.

On Tuesday, fire hit a residential tower, Fort Victoria, in upscale Bonifacio Global City. No one was injured in the incident.
