‘Yolanda’ to exit PH; heads for Vietnam
MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan), one of the strongest storms ever recorded in world history, and forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said midday Saturday.
It is heading towards Vietnam.
It was last observed 549 kilometers west of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It packed maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph. It was forecast to move west northwest at 35 kph.
Only Northern Palawan and Puerto Princesa City were placed under Signal No. 1 as Yolanda moved away from the country.
Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon and the Eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas.
