Trillanes files raps vs PSC, POC over release of funds to bogus sports groups
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV on Wednesday filed a malversation case before the Office of the Ombudsman against the heads of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and others for the release of PSC funds to alleged bogus National Sports Associations.
Trillanes himself announced this during the hearing of the Senate sub-finance committee on the PSC’s budget proposal for 2014.
He said the case was filed against POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., uncle of President Benigno Aquino III, and PSC chairman Richie Garcia, among others.
“I’d like to inform the committee, just this morning, I filed a malversation case in the Ombudsman against chairman Richie Garcia, Mr. Peping Cojuangco and some other people in relation to the release of PSC funds to bogus NSAs,” Trillanes said.
“So that’s my main issue against the PSC. You have become a rubberstamp of Mr. Peping Cojuangco and we have to put a stop to that…” he said.
