Illegal gambling machines crushed

10:02 AM March 22, 2013

SEIZED illegal gambling machines were destroyed yesterday at the  Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
A backhoe was used to crush  435 video carera machines which were seized by different police units since February.
“This is a basic task for the Philippine National Police (PNP). We are serious in our desire to stop illegal gambling,”said Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr, director  of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas.
The machines were seized in separate operations by police in the province, Cebu city, Mandaue city and Lapu-Lapu city.
Garbo said they intensified their anti-illegal gambling campaign when  Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas ordered in October last year the total eradication of illegal gambling.
Two police officers in Negros Oriental were relieved from their posts for their alleged involvement in illegal gambling.
Garbo said failure  to eradicate illegal gambling hurts the image of the PNP.
Garbo said police are aware the problem remains “but our interest to stop illegal gambling will not stop.”/Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
