BOY STABBED DEAD IN LAPU-LAPU

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the body in barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City at dawn yesterday.
Welmer Macan was found lying lifeless on top of a wooden bench.
The boy’s family told police that  gang-related incidents in the area may have something to do with the killing.
Police brought the boy to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead.
Police said no one was able to see who attacked the boy.
Residents in the area told police that they didn’t hear any commotion before the discovery of the body./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

HABAL DRIVER GUNNED DOWN

A 30-YEAR-OLD habal-habal driver was killed while his brother-in-law was wounded after they were shot by motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Codon, Dumanjug town, southern Cebu.
Noel Gabotero died of a gunshot wound in the head. He died while being brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Junrey Cristobal was wounded in the back.
Police said Gabotero, Cristobal and Miriam Gabotero Cristobal were heading toward the town proper on a motorcycle when they were attacked past 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Gabotero drove the motorcycle.
SPO2 Florencio Clarion, desk officer of Dumanjug police station, said there are two warring armed groups in the town and that it was possible that Gabotero was mistaken to be a member of one of the groups.
