MANILA, Philippines—A man was wounded and arrested after he allegedly tried to rob an Indian national in Valenzuela City Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said the Indian national identified as Gurden Singh was walking on his way home on Encarnacion Street in Dalandanan, Valenzuela City at around 8:15 a.m. when blocked by the suspect identified as Zandro “Andrew” Pelicalo.

Pelicalo then tried to rob him at gunpoint, Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said.

Cerbo said Singh ran away and sought the help of Police Officer 2 Juan Antioquia of the Detective Management Unit of Valenzuela police who was then conducting an investigation on a recent robbery case in the Malanday area.

When Antioquia accosted the suspect, Cerbo said Pelicalo tried to pull out a gun, prompting Antioquia to shoot Pelicalo and hitting him on his left arm.

Pelicalo’s firearm was later found out to be only a replica of a Glock 17 pistol.

The suspect was taken to Valenzuela General Hospital for treatment, Cerbo said, adding that several Indian traders and other small scale business men went to the station to file a series of complaints against Pelicalo.
