Fruit vendor stabs welder

A 28-YEAR-OLD welder was critically wounded after he was stabbed repeatedly by a fruit vendor in barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City at dawn yesterday.

Ryan Icoy was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital with three stab wounds in the chest.

The fruit vendor was not immediately identified.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim together with his friends Marcos Igot and a certain Ondoy were drinking liquor when he called the passing fruit vendor passing by at around  2 a.m.

Igot and Ondoy told police that the fruit vendor approached them and for no apparent reason, drew a knife and stabbed Icoy.

The assailant fled.

Igot and Ondoy said they hesitated in stopping the assailant from fleeing for fear that they too would  be stabbed.

PO3 Lydo Pinos, homicide investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLPO)  said the victim might have done something wrong with the fruit vendor in the past which triggered the attack./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
