Mandaue worker fired

THE Mandaue City government terminated the contract of a contractual employee implicated in the series of thefts at the City Social Welfare Services (CSWS) office.

According to the investigation, the employee goaded street children to steal some goods at CSWS. The employee was assigned as a security detail in CSWS.

Chief Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, chief of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB), said they conducted an investigation after receiving reports that sacks of rice, T-shirts and canned goods were stolen from the stockroom of CSWS.

Bastes said three street children admitted stealing from the stockroom and said they did so on instruction from the employee.

THE civilian anti-crime volunteer who was shot by a motorcycle-riding assailant in barangay Basak-Pardo, Cebu City on Monday night died a few hours after he was brought to the hospital.

Criscente Ricaplaza, 42, a member of Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN), succumbed to three gunshot wounds in the back.

The victim was first brought to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) and was transferred to Chong Hua Hospital where he later died.

Ricaplaza reportedly was able to mention the name of his assailants to the person who took him to the hospital.

The assailants waited for Ricaplaza near a taxicab garage in the area. When Ricaplaza passed by on a motorcycle, the assailants tailed him.

Police said the assailants fired at the victim but missed.

Police said Ricaplaza drove toward a corner and alighted from his motorcycle.
