A graduating cadet of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) was reported to be in critical condition after he was shot in the neck when he tried to stop a robber inside a passenger jeepney in Quezon City around noon Saturday.

Alfonso Aviles, 23, a first class cadet of the premier military academy and a native of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan province, remains under observation at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Hospital.

The police said they were looking for the robber who escaped after he shot Aviles. The still unidentified man fled with the victim’s PMA bull ring.

In a report, Quezon City Police District Fairview station chief Superintendent Virgilio Fabian said that at noon on Saturday, the victim was inside a passenger jeepney at the corner of Regalado and Mindanao Avenues in Barangay Greater Lagro when a man took out a cal. .45 firearm and declared a holdup.

As he started divesting a woman passenger of her belongings, Aviles tackled him and tried to take his gun away from him.

The robber, however, shot him in the neck with the bullet exiting through the victim’s face. As Aviles fell, the armed man took his bull ring from his finger and fled.

The driver of the passenger jeepney, Rockefeller Bala, immediately brought the wounded cadet to Fairview General Hospital where he was given first aid before his transfer to AFP Hospital.
