MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Bising (international name: Danas) will intensify into a severe tropical storm within the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Bising was last seen 460 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes — which is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Pagasa said in its latest tropical cyclone advisory on Saturday.
The tropical storm was moving slowly east-northeastward, packing wind speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
“Danas [Bising] is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm within the next 24 hours and is expected to maintain its strength while passing over the Taiwan Strait. It is expected to weaken on Tuesday as it interacts with the landmass of eastern China,” Pagasa explained.

Bising exited the PAR as a tropical depression on Friday noon and intensified into a tropical storm on Saturday morning.
“Tropical Storm Danas, formerly Bising, is forecast to move northward slowly for the next 12 hours before turning north-northeastward over the sea west of extreme Northern Luzon,” Pagasa noted.
“A short period of re-entry over the northwestern boundary of PAR is possible by Monday,” it added. /jpv
