Talisay policeman shot, wounded

A policeman was shot and wounded while driving a motorcycle in barangay Lower Mohon, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

The ambush was staged by two men on board another motorcycle at 3:45 p.m. yesterday.

PO3 Arnold Damasco, who is assigned at the Talisay police station, was shot in the stomach.

He was later declared in stable condition at Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City, said Supt. Eddie Recamara, chief of the Talisay police.

Damasco had a female backrider, whose name was not dislcosed.

“Iya rang amiga (It was just his friend),” Recamara said.

Details of the attack were sketchy. It was also unclear where the policeman was headed when he was shot.

Damasco had just finished his shift in the Talisay City police detention facility in City Hall in barangay Mohon, saidPO1 Michael Campo, desk officer of the Talisay City Police Station.

Another desk officer, SPO1 Nestor Canlobo, said Damasco came from the Talisay City Police Station in barangay Poblacion to collect his pay slip when he was shot.

An empty shell from a .45 caliber pistol was recovered at the crime scene.

SPO2 Jerome Abatayo, desk officer of the Talisay police office, said he learned from other policemen that Damasco had a female backrider during the attack but this detail was not mentioned in the police blotter.
