Government preparing for Typhoon Carina

MANILA, Philippines – Even if it has not yet entered the Philippine area of responsibility, concerned government agencies have prepared for the destruction that may be brought by Typhoon Carina, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said Tuesday.

According to the report, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that the government was particularly monitoring Regions 1 and 2 and other Luzon regions which would possibly be affected by the new typhoon.

The report quoted Valte as saying that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) prepared funds and stocks of relief goods, while the Department of Health (DOH) readied P400, 000 worth of medicines.

The report also noted that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) prepared its quick response group for landslide-prone areas, while members of the Philippine navy and coast guard were ready for mobilization for areas that would need evacuation.
