Second floor of school building inside Letran catches fire

A fire hit the second floor of a building in Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila, on Wednesday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

MANILA, Philippines — A fire hit the second floor of a building inside the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila, on Wednesday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

The blaze, located at the St. Thomas building, was reported at 2:04 p.m. and declared under control at 2:30 p.m.

It was extinguished at 2:44 p.m., said the BFP.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the school’s official student publication said in a Facebook post that the building “experienced an electrical fire.”

An emergency evacuation was also conducted throughout the campus, it added.

Meanwhile, Letran’s Sulong Arriba 2024 event was moved to 5 p.m. due to the incident.

Other facilities inside the campus were declared safe.
