Toledo house help accused of stealing phone, hacked to death
A 45-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by an ex-convict who accused her of stealing his cell phone in barangay Ibo, Toledo City, southwest Cebu, last Sunday afternoon.
Nerissa Caberte of barangay Bato succumbed to several hack wounds on her body.
The suspect, Vicente Espina, of barangay Ibo eluded arrest.
Initial police investigation revealed that Caberte, a former helper who was suffering from a mental disability, went to barangay Ibo around 3 p.m. to visit her previous employer.
Police said the 70-year-old ex-convict chased Caberte with a bolo when he saw her in the neighborhood.
Police said Espina earlier complained to neighbors that the victim stole his cell phone when she was still employed in the neighborhood.
