BuCor chief’s vehicle shot on Skyway; no one hurt
Unknown gunmen fired upon a bulletproof vehicle owned by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. along the Skyway on Tuesday morning.
Catapang, however, was not in the Toyota Hilux pickup, which he had lent to one of his deputy directors, lawyer Al Perreras.
The only ones onboard the vehicle were BuCor security personnel Corrections Officers 1 Cornelio Colalong and Leonardo Cabanierro, who were on their way to pick up Perreras in Quezon City when the shooting occurred at 6:30 a.m.
Both were unhurt. “The vehicle was hit [in] the rear windshield, which shattered the bulletproof glass without penetration, but the trajectory of the bullet was toward the passenger front side of the vehicle, where Perreras usually sits,” BuCor said.
The suspects, who were onboard a Toyota Vios, “immediately drove away at the Nagtahan exit of the Skyway.”
Catapang said that both he and Perreras had been receiving death threats since they implemented various reforms in the agency, according to BuCor.

For his part, Perreras refused to issue a statement on the shooting. BuCor said the incident had already been reported to the police. — FRANCES MANGOSING
