BFP arrests its personnel for extortion in Zamboanga del Sur
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested a 35-year-old fire officer during an entrapment operation in Zamboanga del Sur for alleged extortion, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported on Tuesday.
In a statement, the BFP identified the suspect as Jesson Albios Casanes, a Fire Officer 3 of BFP currently assigned to Isabela City, Basilan Province.
According to the agency, operatives of the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) set up an entrapment operation along Purok Crossing in Barangay Sicade, Kumalarang, on Monday afternoon.
BFP said he was apprehended around 5 p.m. after receiving P400,000 as payment for ensuring an applicant’s admission to the agency. Casanes is currently under police custody.
BFP likewise reminded the public that it does not allow hiring fire officers and personnel that involve any payment.
