LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders died and two pillion riders were injured on Friday (October 6) in separate road accidents in Batangas province, reports said Saturday (October 7).

Emmanuel Carandang, 26, was negotiating a curved section of the road in Barangay (village) Reparo in Nasugbu town around 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle due to a faulty brake, the Batangas police said in a report.

The wayward vehicle consequently crashed into an electric post on the side of the road.

Carandang and his pillion rider, Christian Panganiban, 20, suffered injuries and were taken to Apacible Memorial District Hospital in the locality but Carandang was declared dead on arrival.

Earlier in Sto. Tomas City, motorcyclist Raymond Barbacena, 42, and his pillion rider, Joaquin Barbacena, 21, tried to pass through a group of truck helpers who were manning the flow of traffic while unloading metal beams in Barangay San Agustin around 8:40 p.m.

The riders, whose personal relationship was not specified, accidentally bumped into the metal beams and sustained injuries.

Raymond died while being taken to C.P. Reyes Medical Center located in the city.

Police found out that the fatality had no driver’s license while the motorcycle did not have registration documents from the Land Transportation Office.

The police are conducting further investigation.

The report did not state whether or not the riders involved in the two incidents were wearing crash helmets which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
