LUCENA CITY — A 26-year-old school teacher died after his motorcycle collided with a van in Taal town in Batangas province on Saturday night.

Batangas police said in a report Sunday that motorcyclist Neil Bryan Ojales was traveling along a section of a national road in Barangay Tulo at around 8:25 p.m. on September 23 when his vehicle collided with an on-coming Nissan Urvan Van. The van’s driver was identified in the same report as Rodolfo Hernandez.

The rider sustained multiple injuries on different parts of his body and died while being rushed to the Batangas Provincial Hospital in neighboring Lemery town.

The report did not specify if the victim was wearing a crash helmet for protection. Wearing of helmets by bike riders is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

Hernandez was taken into custody while police were conducting further investigations.

The report also did not specify whose vehicle was not in the proper lane when the collision happened.
