DOH: 691 reported health issues due Taal vog

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said that it logged 691 individuals who had health issues due to the volcanic smog (vog) emitted by Taal Volcano recently.

According to data from the DOH as of Sept. 25, all cases were recorded in Batangas, with the municipality of Balete having the most number of cases with 208.

A total of 135 cases were recorded in San Pascual, 76 in Agoncillo, 62 in Tuy, 52 in Lipa City, 40 in Tanauan, 27 in Sta. Teresita, 23 in San Jose and 21 in Nasugbu.

Meanwhile, Alitagtag reported 18 cases, Lemery 16, Calatagan four, Balayan three and Batangas City, Calaca and Taysan two each.

Three individuals required hospitalization, two in Lian and one in Tuy.

Citing the air quality monitoring of Batangas State University as of Sept. 25, DOH said the air quality assessment in Batangas is now categorized as “good.”

“Rest assured that the DOH, along with its regional counterparts – the Centers for Health Development Calabarzon and Mimraopa – has already provided both logistical and medical assistance in the affected areas,” the DOH said.

The DOH also assured the public that it disseminated an alert memorandum and health advisory to those affected by the vog, as well as allocated requested face masks.
