MANILA, Philippines — Police have identified one of the suspects behind the recent kidnapping and shooting incident in Antipolo city.
Antipolo city police chief Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo opted not to disclose the suspect’s identity.
But he disclosed to INQUIRER.net that the victim, Daniel Apolinario, may have been involved with illegal drug trade.
Police believe this link may be the have something to do with the suspects wanted to take him down.
“Involved sa illegal drug transactions. Yun po ang nakikitang motibo,” Manongdo said in a Viber message.
(He is involved with illegal drug transactions. This is the apparent motive.)
“Bawal pa ilabas ang identity, pero nakuha na namin yung full name niya and other details. Taga rito lang rin sa Antipolo pero nakaalis na,” he reported.
(Revealing the identity is prohibited, but we already got his full name and other details. He’s also from around here in Antipolo but he has already left.)
Law enforcers have yet to identify the other suspects.
Police will file a complaint against the identified suspect, even if Apolinario and his family refuse to do so.
However, Manongdo believes the case will be “airtight” if the victim will sue the known assailant.
“Wala pa tayo complaint na nai-file kasi natatakot ang family. Siga ang suspect sa lugar kaya lahat, pati kapitbahay, takot magbigay ng impormasyon,” he said.
(We have not filed a complaint because the family is afraid. The suspect is feared in the area so everyone, including the neighbor, are afraid to give information.)
“Kung ayaw ng family, kami ang mag-file,” he concluded.
(If the family does not want to, we will file the case.)
On September 7, Apolinario was kidnapped by four suspects, who reportedly shot him four times in the jaw and once in the head.
Then, the suspects left him near a gas station in Sitio Boso-Boso along Marcos Highway around midnight on September 8.
The victim was brought to a hospital in Sitio Cabading by a tricycle driver.
Manongdo said Apolinario’s current condition is stable.
