Tropical storm Dodong (international name Talim) continues to move west-northwest away from the Philippine area of Responsibility (PAR), but its enhancement of southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring rain in most parts of the country, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

Citing its 5 a.m. bulletin Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Dodong was last monitored 390 kilometers (km) west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, moving 20 kilometers per hour (kph) and carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gusts of up to 105 kph.

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Saturday said tropical storm Dodong, the country’s fourth cyclone in 2023,  has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

In its bulletin issued at 5 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Dodong was last seen 305 kilometers West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday said Tropical Depression Dodong has intensified into a tropical storm.

Pagasa’s 11 a.m. weather bulletin indicated that Dodong was on his way out of the Philippine area of responsibility, moving north-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour. It was last located 305 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

All Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) have been lifted as Tropical Depression Dodong cut across the West Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Dodong was last seen 270 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

The rain dumped by Tropical Depression “Dodong” on Thursday was a welcome respite for farmers in this province that continued to suffer from a dry spell brought by the El Niño weather phenomenon that is also affecting other parts of the country.

But the heavy downpour lasted for only a few hours and barely drenched the parched farmlands, especially in this agricultural town, rice farmer Joseph Aguinaldo, 50, of Upi village told the Inquirer in an interview on Friday.

Tropical Depression Dodong maintained its strength as it crossed the northwestern portion of Cagayan province before noon Friday.

Based on the latest advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Dodong’s center was in the vicinity of Allacapan, Cagayan as it packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 75 kph.

Tropical Depression Dodong is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to its 8 a.m. meteorological report Friday, Dodong is expected to move west or west-northwest of northern Luzon and traverse waters west of the Ilocos Region.

The low pressure area in northern Luzon strengthened early Friday morning and is now known as Tropical Depression Dodong, the state weather bureau said.

Consequently, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over 16 areas where strong winds between 39 and 61 kilometers per hour (kph) may be expected – posing “minimal to minor threat to life and property.”
