MANILA, Philippines — Over P12 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed by anti-narcotics operatives in Sulu province, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday.
According to the PNP, its operatives discovered the massive marijuana plantation, approximately 15,000 square meters wide, in a joint operation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Sitio Tubig Baba, Barangay Pitogo, Kalingalan Caluang.
Based on the report, the plantation contained fully grown marijuana plants worth P12,900,000, which were uprooted and destroyed by authorities last June 6.
Meanwhile, three samples of the uprooted plants were turned over to the Sulu Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for further examination.
PNP said a certain Maddi Khan reportedly cultivated the marijuana plantation along with his cohorts. They were arrested and will face complaints for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
