MANILA, Philippines— Southwesterly wind flow will continue to bring cloudy skies to western Luzon while the rest of the country, especially Visayas and Mindanao, can expect hot weather with chances of isolated rain showers on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

(The remaining parts of the country, especially Visayas and Mindanao, will experience hot weather, but isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are still possible.)

Badrina added that a frontal system would affect the area of Batanes, bringing cloudy skies with rains over the province and the Babuyan Islands as well.

Zambales and Bataan can also expect cloudy skies due to the southwesterly wind flow, according to the specialist.

Badrina also reported that the southwesterly wind flow may eventually trigger a southwest monsoon or “habagat” and that Pagasa stations in western sections of Luzon are continually monitoring the weather system.

(We expect that from the third week of May until the second week of June, the rainy season typically starts. But for now, we have not seen the beginning of the rainy season. Our stations in the western section of Luzon are continually monitoring so that we can find out if these rains will continue on.)

Pagasa predicted that the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, can anticipate isolated rain, thunder, and lightning. Badrina advised that these isolated occurrences of thunder and lightning will become more consistent and normal, especially during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, heat is expected to persist in the Visayas, with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms from the afternoon until the evening.

Similarly, Mindanao can expect isolated rain, thunder, and lightning on Wednesday, as per Badrina’s report.

No gale warnings were raised over any of the country’s seaboards. Pagasa continues to advise caution to those setting sails, however, as thunderstorms in the country’s waters may cause waves to intensify.
