2 COVID-19 patients die in Quezon province

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon province dropped to 25 after tallying 65 on Jan. 1.

LUCENA CITY — Two COVID-19 patients in Quezon died on Monday, May 8, amid the continued rise in the number of active cases in the province.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on Monday that Sariaya town and Tayabas City listed one fatality each. Health authorities did not provide further information on the latest fatalities.

On Monday, the IPHO logged 26 new coronavirus-infected patients while 21 had already recovered.

The IPHO disclosed that the current number of active COVID-19 cases jumped to 106 from only one a month ago.

At least 39 of the infected patients have been admitted to several hospitals, and one of them has been classified as “severe and critical.”

The IPHO reported that 20 of the province’s 41 municipalities have active virus carriers. Lucena City, the capital of Quezon, topped the list with 21 followed by neighboring Tayabas City with 17.

This May, Quezon has logged 137 new cases, 76 recoveries, and three deaths.

The data showed that the province logged 76 cases in April, 13 in March, 15 in February, and 92 in January.

Health authorities in Quezon have appealed to the public to remain calm but vigilant amid the continued rise of COVID-19-infected patients in the province.

It renewed its call to the public to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, such as wearing best-fit face masks, avoiding crowds if not feeling well, getting vaccinated with a booster dose and staying in areas with good air ventilation.
