MANILA, Philippines — Almost 4,000 aspiring overseas workers went to the Department of Migrant Worker’s (DMW) mega job fair held during the celebration of Labor Day, according to Undersecretary Bernard Olalia on Thursday.
In a statement, Olalia said that the department launched one mega job fair in their central office and 12 more nationwide.
There were 30 licensed recruitment agencies and four manning agencies that joined the job fair, which offered an estimated total of 12,500 job vacancies, Olalia added.
The undersecretary said that almost 3,000 applicants were considered for a job interview.
Employers from different countries supported the event, but most companies are from Europe and the Middle East.
“Kasi ang Europa, naghahanap po ng iba’t ibang mga skills ‘yan, tulad po sa manufacturing industry, sa construction industry, tourism industry, at ‘yung healthcare industry na marami pong mga foreign companies po ang nangangailangan ng ibang mga nurses, for example, atsaka mga caregivers,” Olalia said.
(Because Europe is looking for various skills, such as in the manufacturing industry, construction industry, tourism industry, and the healthcare industry, where many foreign companies need nurses, for example, and caregivers.)
According to Olalia, employers look for work experience, educational background, and soft skills, which include willingness to learn and dedication to work. The companies also recognize the national certification system given by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Olalia also cleared that on-the-spot hiring was open for local or domestic job positions.
