MANILA, Philippines — One of the two low-pressure areas (LPAs) being monitored by the state weather bureau is expected to bring rain over Palawan on Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its late Thursday afternoon weather forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said one LPA was last sighted 125 kilometers east of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, while the other was 1,350 kilometers east of Mindanao, still outside of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Aurelio noted that the LPA lingering near Palawan has a chance of developing into a tropical depression.

The LPA is seen to move westward, cross Palawan, and traverse the West Philippine Sea before leaving the PAR on Sunday.

“Dahil sa epekto ng LPA sa may Sulu Sea o malapit sa Palawan, ang probinsya ng Palawan ay makararanas ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at thunderstorm,” Aurelio said.

(The LPA near the Sulu Sea or Palawan will bring overcast skies and scattered rain and thunderstorms in the province of Palawan.)

Meanwhile, he said fair weather with chances of brief rain showers would prevail in the rest of the country, including Metro Manila.

While one LPA is seen to exit the PAR on Sunday, the other LPA is expected to enter by then.

Aurelio said, however, that it would not immediately affect the country.

“Kaya sa loob ng tatlong araw, makikita niyo po na fair weather tayo maliban sa localized thunderstorms,” Aurelio said.

(In the next three days, we’ll experience fair weather except for localized thunderstorms.)
