SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Subic has surpassed its target collection for January, the agency said Tuesday, February 7.

In a statement, the local BOC office said it posted a 4.4 percent surplus in its assigned collection target of P3,813,620 last month.

According to the agency, it exceeded the target “despite the issues involving the Port of Subic,” although it did not elaborate.

The agency has been beset by controversies recently, including allegations of rampant agricultural smuggling at the free port.

In December last year, the BOC intercepted the illegal entry of four agricultural products, such as onions, carrots, and galunggong.

At least 7,000 metric tons of sugar were also seized at the Subic port in August last year. INQ
