#WalangPasok: Class suspensions on July 4 due to expected heavy rainfall

MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units have suspended classes on Friday, July 4, in anticipation of heavy rainfall in parts of Luzon due to the combined Tropical Depression Bising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat.

Classes on Friday were suspended in the following areas:

Metro Manila

Valenzuela City – online and in-person classes for kinder to senior high school, public and private; in-person classes for college, public and private

Ilocos Region

Ilocos Sur

• Entire province – all levels, public and private

La Union

• Entire province – all levels, public and private

Pangasinan

• Dagupan City – face-to-face classes from kindergarten to senior high school, public and private
• Pozzorubio – all levels, public and private

Cordillera Administrative Region

Abra

• Entire province – all levels, public and private

Kalinga

• Tabuk City – all levels, public and private

Cagayan Valley

Cagayan

• Amulung – all levels, public and private

Central Luzon

Bataan

• Entire province –  all levels, public and private,; online classes or modular distance learning to proceed at the discretion of the school head

Bulacan

• Calumpit – all levels, public and private
• Hagonoy – kindergarten to senior high school, public and private

Pampanga

• Santa Ana – elementary level, public and private

Tarlac

• La Paz – all levels, public and private

Zambales

• Botolan – all levels, public and private
• Subic – all levels

Calabarzon

Cavite

• Entire province – elementary to senior high school, public and private

READ: LPA off Cagayan now Tropical Depression Bising; Signal No. 1 in 2 areas

LPA off Luzon now Tropical Depression Bising

The low pressure area off Northern Luzon intensified into Tropical Depression Bising on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Bising was last spotted 200 kilometers west-northwest of Calayan, Cagayan and moving southwest at 20 km per hour.

The tropical depression was packing a maximum wind speed of 45 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The development prompted Pagasa to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Calayan Isl. and Dalupiri Is.) and the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin and Dumalneg). /atm / jpv
