Though wounded on both legs, the cop, who is assigned to the intelligence section of the local police, was able to return fire but missed his target.

The gunman, identified by the police report as Ariel Bathan alias “Pusa,” fled aboard a motorcycle.

Investigators said the wounded police was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The report did not provide the possible motive behind the shooting. Police launched a manhunt for Bathan.

In San Pascual town, security guard Inocencio Ilagan, 54, was walking on his way home in Barangay San Antonio at 3:44 a.m. Monday when a still unidentified male armed with a handgun of still-unknown caliber appeared and repeatedly shot him.
