Man nabbed for ‘illegal’ transport of logs in Occidental Mindoro town

CITY OF CALAPAN — Police arrested a man Friday afternoon during an anti-illegal logging operation in Sablayan town, Occidental Mindoro province, according to a police report.

The suspect was identified as Dave Versoza, who was accused of illegally transporting Gmelina species in Barangay Ligaya.

In a phone interview, Col. Jun Dexter Danao, police provincial director, said Versoza had the complete permit to cut but not a permit to transport.

Danao said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources called them for police assistance.

Confiscated from the suspect were 16 pieces of Gmelina logs measuring about 213.32 board feet and valued at P9,599.40.

The suspect, who is a resident of Barangay Ligaya, was placed in police custody.
