MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have “cleared” the New Era Elementary School in Quezon City of any explosives after a bomb scare gripped the institution early Monday.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. assured the public that the area had been thoroughly inspected by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit even as probers will continue to look into the possible cause and source of the bomb scare in the school.
“As of 8:45 today, na-clear na ng EOD [team] iyong area. Ibig sabihin, medyo na-declare na na cleared iyong area but still, iyong pulis natin tinitingnan saan nanggaling iyong tawag…so tuloy iyong imbestigasyon doon although na-clear na iyong area,” he said in a news briefing.
(As of 8:45 today, the EOD team has cleared the area. Meaning the area has kind of been cleared but still, our police are still tracing where the call came from…so the investigation continues, although the area had been cleared.)
Azurin further noted that the decision to suspend classes in the school will be up to its officials.
“Kung sasabihin na cleared na, balik na sa pasok ang school, so nasa management na iyan ng New Era (If it was already cleared, they can continue their classes in the school, so it depends on New Era’s management),” he added. — with reports from Niña Cuasay, trainee
