Magnitude 4.8 quake hits Camarines Norte; aftershocks, damage likely – Phivolcs

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rocks Camarines Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Camarines Norte on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The temblor was felt even in Metro Manila.

According to the Phivolcs, the quake hit at 5:57 a.m. with its epicenter located 12 kilometers southeast of  Tinaga Island in the municipality of Vinzons. It added that the tectonic earthquake had a depth of focus of one kilometer.

It also described it as “strong,” registering up to Intensity V on the Richter scale in Camarines Norte.

  • Instrumental Intensity V – Daet, Camarines Norte
  • Instrumental Intensity III – Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; City of Iriga, and Ragay, Camarines Sur; San Roque, Northern Samar
  • Instrumental Intensity II – Alabat, Guinayangan, Gumaca, Infanta, Mauban, and Mulanay, Quezon; Pasacao, and Pili, Camarines Sur
  • Instrumental Intensity I – City of Marikina; City of Pasig; Pulilan, Bulacan; Calauag, Quezon; Taytay, Rizal
